Curated by Buckland-Willis, The Wasteland boasts a collective of emerging female printmakers from diverse backgrounds concerned with the Australian suburbian. Pushing the boundaries of print media, The Wasteland confronts the mundane complexities of living in Sydney, a city that is simultaneously over-crowded and spacious, enormous and minuscule, quiet and loud. Steering away from traditional depictions of suburban houses and cityscapes, The Wasteland is an exploration of the suburban experience through the lens of youth culture, and the unique struggles facing young artists throughout Sydney and wider New South Wales. Capturing the mundane reality, humour and challenges of the everyday, the artists play with both the tedium of reality and the beauty of the boring.
